Retirement

So, I marched into my boss's office and told her that I'm going to retire on my 55th birthday, in the summer of 2019.  Well, I didn't exactly 'march', instead I quietly slinked in there and took a seat and told her.  She said there was a time when many state employees retired at age 55.  Today many fewer do so because of health insurance.  She looked at me, smiled, and asked, "Are you going to Spain?" "Yes, at least that's the plan." I filled out an online form and called the offices of Employee Trust Funds for the state of Wisconsin to get the ball rolling with the calculation of benefits.  I have many questions about health care.

Welcome

So, we're going to Spain. To Live. Seriously, we are. There's a lot of work to do before we can actually go, but we're pretty sure it's going to happen. They say that the more you tell people that you're going to do something really difficult, the more likely you are to follow through and actually do it. So, here it is - I'm telling you now. We're really doing this. So, join me as I share with you updates about visas, paperwork, real estate searches, travelling with two dogs, learning a new language, opening foreign bank accounts, the pursuit of better healthcare, and any other random thing that strikes me as it relates to moving to a place that I know very little about.
